Moving is always a delicate moment. With this in mind, we have prepared some tips to help you plan your move.
Here is a list of important tips. Maybe you will not need to do it all, but it is advisable to check it.
- Update the appraisal of your belongings for insurance purposes.
- If you live in a building, please report the date of your move to the building administrator. Try to ensure there will be no other family moving that same day in your building.
- Check if shades, curtains and carpets should be washed before being transported to the new home. Also don’t forget to check if curtain accessories may be used in the new house.
- Turn off the gas, washing and drying machines, light fixtures and air conditioners.
- Attach a “DON’T TAKE” label on objects that should be kept in the house.
- Leave objects in their places. It will make packing easier.
- Close all medicine and perfume bottles.
- If you will not be present during packing, assign someone you trust to do the task.
- Turn off the refrigerator and freezer the day before packing and leave their doors open to avoid mildew and mold.
- Check your new home voltage. In case of an international move, also check the plugs and the TV and other electronic appliances systems.
To avoid having to work in the kitchen during packing, plan a delivered or cold meal.

- Don’t forget to report your new address to the electricity, gas, water and telephone companies, cable TV operator, bank, insurance company, and newspapers and magazine subscription deliveries.
- Take these items with you: jewelry, passports, air tickets, money, social security card, driver’s license and other personal documents, as well as car documents.
