According to the latest research by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estat\u00edstica (IBGE) (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), unemployment has risen in 14 of the 27 federative units in Brazil. The numbers, published on last May 16th, correspond to the first quarter of 2019 in relation to the previous quarter, reaching an average rate of 12.7% of unemployed people in the country. In contrast, the unemployment rate in Canada, a country that receives more and more Brazilian manpower, is less than half that number: 5.6%.<\/p>\n

This has been the lowest level of unemployment in Canada since 1976, which explains why over 219 thousand jobs were created last year \u2013 1.2% more in comparison with 2017. However, these good indicators have created a certain type of \u201cproblem\u201d for the Canadian government: a shortage of manpower to occupy the openings in some sectors of the economy. In short, there are plenty of job openings in Canada, especially in the areas of services, construction, agriculture and hydrocarbons.<\/p>\n
According to information from the Business Development Bank of Canada, only 6 out of 10 businesses, considering small and medium ones, can hire the necessary number of workers to fulfill their functions. And you are mistaken if you think this is because of the salaries. The Bank states that, on average, those businesses pay C$21 (about R$61) per hour.<\/p>\n
A report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business states that, in the last semester of 2018, over 430 thousand job openings were created and not occupied in small and medium businesses. The aging of the Canadian population explains the shortage of manpower, and the solution found by Canadian specialists is based on a raise in salaries and incentives for the import of workers.<\/p>\n
