Paramaribo, the nation\u2019s capital, holds a heritage of colonial architecture that attracts any history- loving tourist. And more, it also offers options of beaches for relaxation.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The city has great landmarks of Dutch colonization.<\/span><\/p>\n The first one is clearly the local architecture. The wooden houses with diagonal roofs are similar to what we find in Amsterdam, for instance. This feature is unique in South America, since Paramaribo is one of the few places on the continent where Dutch influence reached such a high level.<\/span><\/p>\n Another landmark of Dutch colonization is the city\u2019s religious tolerance. Only a few meters separate two great temples in Paramaribo: a Jewish synagogue and a Muslim mosque. The two magnificent buildings have existed side by side harmoniously for a long time.<\/span><\/p>\n This is due to the philosophy of Dutch colonization. Historically rooted to a liberal political doctrine, the colonizers were very open to different religious practices. Thus, the opening of temples of the most diverse religious leanings was accepted by the local administration.<\/span><\/p>\n Due to this historical complexity, the city itself is greatly attractive to tourists. It\u2019s marked by a culture that diverges from the history of Iberian colonization that dominated the rest of South America.<\/span><\/p>\n The country also holds immense natural beauties. The local beaches have crystal-clear waters similar to the Caribbean tropical paradises. There are a few resorts, for those planning a complete rest in this paradisiacal ambiance.<\/span><\/p>\n Paramaribo, and, indeed, all of Suriname, offers Brazilians a wide range of tourist destinations.
