Much more than just being a trendy word, sustainability is an indispensable concept for the future of humanity. Though directly linked to economic development and the large-scale production of goods, the desire for sustainability begins at home. Therefore, if you wish to change the world, guaranteeing the preservation of forests, woods, rivers, lakes and oceans, you can begin with the decoration of your house. No, you haven’t misread.

Besides preserving the environment, applying the concept of sustainability to your house will also save you money. In blending sustainability and decoration, the key word is “reuse”.

Lots of things in your house that may be destined for a dumpster are potentially decorative. Or even items that you’ve seen in the street and that you’ve never imagined taking home. Check below:

Pallets

Found in supermarkets at popular prices, pallets are extremely versatile when used for decoration. For example: place two pallets side by side, and two others on top, add a futon – or large cushions – and presto, you have a couch. Another option is to use a pallet as a coffee table for your living-room. You can keep it in its raw wood version, or paint it in the color of your choice.

Crates

From supermarkets to fair stalls, crates for fruit and vegetables are multiuse objects for your home. Painted according to your taste, they are great niches when attached to the wall, or dressers when placed on a table. They can also be covered in cloth and used as containers.

Wooden stepladders

Remember that old wooden stepladder that is about to be retired and removed from your house? Just a slight renovation, a layer of paint, and presto: leave it open and make it a shelf for books and small objects.

Tin cans

Tin cans for powdered milk or chocolate are excellent for organizing items. You can cover them with paper or paint them, leaving them open for holding scissors or kitchen utensils.

Glass jars

That little glass jar that was on its way to the trash bin can be cleaned and reused as a candle holder, or even as a light fixture after being wired for a light bulb.

So, did you like these suggestions? They’re just a few examples of how sustainability, economy and creativity can work together when you’re decorating your house. Follow the blog and keep up with the trends.
