A capital do estado de Rondônia surgiu durante a histórica construção da estrada de ferro Madeira-Mamoré, no início do século 20. A população da cidade é formada por uma grande mistura de pessoas provenientes de várias partes do Brasil, que se mudaram para lá não só na época da construção da ferrovia, mas também para as obras da Usina Hidrelétrica Santo Antônio.

Geralmente não costuma ser um destino muito lembrado por turistas brasileiros na hora de decidir onde passar as férias. Porém é um destino muito procurado por viajantes de outros países que buscam conhecer as belezas da Amazônia.

O principal atrativo de Porto Velho é o passeio de barco pelo rio Madeira. O passeio tem duração média 45 minutos e leva à corredeira de Santo Antônio, um dos cartões-postais da capital. Os passeios do fim da tarde são os mais incríveis, já que dá pra curtir o pôr do sol e quem sabe ainda ter a companhia dos botos(até mesmo o cor-de-rosa) durante a viagem.

Além disso, partindo de Porto Velho e descendo o rio Madeira, se chega à Reserva Extrativista do Lago do Cuniã, que abriga um dos mais incríveis lagos da Amazônia. É uma região repleta de igarapés, que atravessam campos e florestas inundadas abrigando fauna e flora exuberantes que vão encantar os visitantes e lembrar o porquê da região amazônica ter tanto prestígio ao redor do mundo.

A vida noturna da capital de Rondônia também não fica para trás. Se concentra na “Calçada da Fama”, repleta de bares e boates.

A cidade, mesmo sendo uma capital, ainda possui aquele clima gostoso do interior. São várias ruas de terra, especialmente em trechos ao longo do rio Madeira. O Mercado Central é um lugar que mantém essa aura interiorana e deve ser visita quase obrigatória para quem visita a cidade, pois é um tradicional ponto de encontro para tomar café da manhã. Entre as opções cheias de sustança estão mingaus, tapioca, bolos, queijos e frutas típicas.

Porto Velho deveria ter mais a atenção do turista brasileiro, já que é uma cidade que consegue como poucas unir a estrutura de uma cidade grande com o clima de cidade do interior. Além de se localizar na região da Amazônia e estar cercada por diversas belezas naturais. É um destino recomendado à todos!

The nightlife in Porto Velho is very lively. It’s concentrated in the “Calçada da Fama” (Sidewalk of Fame), full of bars and nightclubs.

The city, although a state capital, still has the friendly atmosphere of a small backwoods town. There are many unpaved streets, especially along the riverside. The Mercado Central (Central Market) is one of the places that still have this backwoods aura, and is a “must” for visitors, as it’s a traditional meeting place for breakfast. Among the many nutritious options, one finds porridges, cakes, tapioca, different cheeses and regional fruits.

Porto Velho should be more valued by Brazilian tourists, since it’s a city like few others, uniting a big city structure with a small town ambiance. It’s a destination recommended for everyone.
