Historically, the periods that mark humanity deeply tend to have a reflex, in the long term, on the direction society takes with regard to production choices, concerns and decisions. Circumstances, these series of events that together change the context we live in, influence us for generations after they take place.

And the events taking place in this first semester of 2020 are memorable in that sense. A vast spectrum of the world market had to adapt to new work conditions in order to continue producing amidst the need for the quarantine.

This scenario, on a global scale, demonstrated the fragility of production. No matter how unique the situation we are facing, it brings symptoms we can mitigate. Can the adequacy of certain positions in the market, especially those of management, for remote work, for instance, become a reality for everyone?

This is a complex question. It’s about an adequacy that, if it happens, will drastically change the way diverse sectors of society work. Remote work has economic advantages for companies, since the investment in structure decreases.

Practice also shows that this model does not result in a decrease of productivity by collaborators. On the contrary, it tends to free time in everyone’s daily routine, which results in less work time and more leisure for other activities, such as sports and hobbies.

Does this mean that face-to-face work in management ambiences is ending? No. The answer will be given in the context of each company, with the possibility of adapting to the model, given the technological structure at hand, and the company’s reality.

Technology leads to progress, but it’s always important to understand what we are doing with it, and how we can adapt it to our reality, in order to obtain the best for production at the moment.
